heeere chick chick chick!

so after our freak snowstorm this past friday (april fools- but for real), the Good Lord decided to bless us with a rather mild weekend.

it's still not "ideal weather" but we're getting there.

and because God has a sense of humor, while we got 50° temps, it was still windy as hell. so it was really like 35° temps. and it was also really bright- like, i'm sort of still blind because i dared step outdoors without Ray Bans- bright.

basically- spring in New England.

so we bundled up the girls & headed out for some fun- chicken & mud style.

we always start off by throwing them some "scratch"- or anything food realted. they go nuts.

i am alex. queen of the chickens.

the husband then suggested that she come over & pet one- the goof look on her face shows her sheer excitement at the prospect.

she started off petting miss chicken...

and then moved on to yelling in her face, "HI CHICKEN! HI HI HI! ILAUUUU! (i love you) NICE!!!"

and then she started pointing out all her body parts. "eyes. nose. mouf (mouth). feet."

after enduring this torture for a good minutes- the chicken went into this sort of coma thing. she just stood there looking terrifed. poor thing.

i'm guessing alex's presence grew on our ladies- because when she came tearing down the hill...

they followed. and it was hilarious.

bright idea of the day- allow alex to harvest the eggs.

DSC_0212 DSC_0211 DSC_0209

adorable? yes.

wise? no.

because trying to take that egg away, before she smashes it, is like trying to do math. really hard.

DSC_0218 DSC_0219

"NO! EGG! I BE CAREFUL!!!"

got it.

i then asked brandon to get a picture of the girls & i- i got this:

me: awkward postition. head cut off. unflattering "jeans stuffed into Hunters" look.

brynn: wt...?

alex:adorably mischievous looking.

and this one. where alex is running away. picture op fail.

brynn was pretty content to go along for the ride- and she looked sort of out of it 98% of the time.

and alex was high on sunshine & dirty snow (yeah- she managed to get a few bites in before the husband got ahold of her) DSC_0229 DSC_0239

and the chickens enjoyed a dust bath fit for the gods. the chicken dust bath gods.

and running around for an hour must have tired this kid out- because she didn't even fight us when it was time to go inside.

and this is why you shouldn't spend over $20 on clothing for your child. because she couldn't care less & will more than likely sit down in mud & chicken crap.

let this be a lesson.

a splendid weekend. made even better in part by a trip to H&M where i scored the most adorable outfits for the girls. i'll have to get pics & show you- because i seriously do a happy dance when i think about dressing them up.

i also ventured into J.Crew, Banana Republic & the Gap- where i eagerly picked out a few skirts & dresses only to be slapped with sticker shock.

how is $60 a SALE price on a skirt?! a short skirt at that. no- no no no. i simply can't do it. and $140 for a dress? a "see through" dress with frayed hems?! unacceptable.

i did find myself in Forever 21 (where the prices are much more my style) but i was pretty overwhelmed by the amount of teenaged girls whom i tried to maneuver my stroller around. so i left. quickly.

i'll have to go back alone. if i ever get the chance.

that reminds me- i NEED to show you the girl's easter outfits. your head will explode from the awesome. i promise.

They are so adorable!! I think it's hilarious that your hubs cut your head off in the pic. It's not THAT hard! haha I was wondering, are you raising the chicks for their fresh eggs? Have you tried them? I don't know how the whole harvesting thing goes but I think it's a cool idea if that's what you're doing. Aaaaand the wonder years song just came on your playlist. Loved that show! lol

Bella and I just read this post together. She was FASCINATED by Alex. And the chickens. And those pics of the chickens running down the hill had me laughing so hard. You guys must live in a fantastic place, it looks like so much fun.
