oh em gee

ok- so these girls can obviously dance. in fact, they have more talent than i'll ever have ...

(people often assume because of my 1/2 blackness that i can booty pop & get down low. i can do neither of these things without looking like i might have some unknown disorder)

...but really?! gyrating, booty popping, cupping boobies & pelvic thrusting?! at 7-9 years of age?! dear Lord. i mean, at very least- throw some more fabric on these single little ladies!!!

i'm pretty sure my husband's going to insist i purchase 20 snowsuits in varying sizes so that alex will be fully covered for the rest of her life. i'm also pretty sure that he'll balk when i suggest we put alex in dance classes (and if she's anything like me, she'll balk too. freaking mom, tryin to make me have rhythm)

so what do you think?

to much? adorable? nothing wrong? etc etc?

- if these girl's parents are anything like the ones on the pagent shows i see on tv- i'm picturing 5 over enthusiastic mothers screaming and crying with joy...while 5 fathers sit with their mouths agape. "wait...THESE are the dance lessons i'm paying for?!?!?!"

Woah. I am speechless.

WAY too much. Unbelievable. I feel sad for these little girls...

(I'll give you that they are excellent dancers...)

I am HORRIFIED.

I'm also writing my own post on this. I hope you don't mind.

HORRIFIED is exactly right, Blair. I took dance at that age... we didn't dance like that. I wasn't even allowed to wear a two piece at the pool.
Whoa. Can't decide if that make me happy I have a boy or scared that is what he will see at 7.

I don't know how I feel about that. From a purely technical dance perpsective. These little girls have some serious talent. Yes, there was too much gyrating, but there were also technical elements to that dance (which beyonce couldn't have ever attempted). I think if they had more clothes on, it wouldn't have been sooo inappropriate. I wouldn't let my little girl dance on stage in that costume.

I took dance at that age and I was embarrassed to shake my hips. Times have totally changed.

I would much rather watch J.T. dance the dance in his black leotard on SNL!

Disgusting. What is wrong with their parents? Seriously. I am in shock.

wow! that's all I can really say. I would love to be able to put my daughter in dance someday, I think it teaches rhythm and confidence. but I'm scared to, not knowing what kind of costumes and dances she may be asked to do

ps. I'm a new follower and I LOVE your blog!

The sad thing is they have a lot of talent.. too bad it isn't being used in a better way.

Uhm, WTF? Over my dead body will my girls slap on lingerie and booty pop at the ripe old age of 7 (or 25, whatevs).

Wow! Did you notice the look of seriousness on their faces?! Crikies. Keep Alex in the snowsuit!

The talent of those girls is amazing, but I think they could have showcased it better without the shock factor of little girls in next to nothing outfits gyrating on stage.

SO disturbing. Who lets children dress and dance like that??? These are LITTLE girls, not women. Why can't people let kids remain kids anymore? It's heartbreaking.

ahhh ladies- i feel validated.

and no blair- me no mind :)
thank you Pink!

yes- these little darlings have some mad skillz- but skillz that should only be showcased while wearing far more clothing & using way less "come hither" moves.

like dancing to hannah montana or something- that's still cool right?

oy!!!

I have a cousin who does dances like that, and my mouth drops every time her mom shares a video. She is 13 now, but when she was 6 she was in a group that danced to Shania's "I feel like a woman," and at one stage during the dance the ripped their pants off and threw them in the audience - seriously? NOT OK! Those girls have talent - I certainly can't move like that, but shouldn't they be dancing to something a bit more age appropriate, and be wearing something that wouldn't make their dads run and hide? I'm glad i have boys...

Those girls are so absolutely amazing at dancing. Wow.

HOWEVER. 6 year olds should be wearng clothes and not dropping it like it's hot.

Unfortuantely this is what most child beauty pageants have stooped to... skimpy costumes, makeup, and promiscuous dancing... all on kids as young as THREE. :(
This is so horrible.
But they sure can dance.

This is disgusting. Today I was all concerned about my kid not wearing disney anymore...that is fine now so long as she doesn't do this! Good lord.

This is ridiculous. Some sex offender is really enjoying this right now.

I have a 3 1/2 month old daughter. I showed my husband this and asked, "Is this what we have to look forward to"? He said, "only if we let her." Granted these girls are very talented and I am sure they are having fun but these dance moves are too adult!

Oh HELLLLLLZ NO!

Great talent, but the dance is way too sexy for girls their age and those costumes are ridiculous! Everyone is to blame here. The parents, the teachers, the school, the audience, everyone.

Sweet Jebus!! They are so flexible and energetic! Impressive. But man, watching that makes me feel...icky.

Ada is grounded for the rest of her life. Let me know if you find a good deal on those snow suits.

I keep thinking about how horrible this is...

The moves and the clothes turned should-be innocent, little girls into sex objects. It's appalling when people remark that they are "just dancing." In my opinion, there's no public context where this is appropriate at any age. As my sister would say, "Save it for your husband!"

I saw an interview on Inside Edition of 2 of the parents. One mom and one dad, both completely oblivious to what could have been wrong with the dance. Its sad, they even tried to blame the new Chipmunk movie for the moves. ummm... they did not move like that. I was a dancer for 8 years, danced in high school and college and we didnt ever do anything like that. I am still amazed, too bad the video is now gone. Poo!
